Question

Who Was Fatima Bint Dahhak?

Answer

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.

There is a difference of opinion about the women who were married to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and divorced before consummation. The verse of prohibition of marriage did not apply to them. They are the following:

  1.  Mulayka bint Kab
  2.  Aliya bint Zabyan al-Dahhak
  3.  Asma bint Al-Numan bin Abi Al Jawn, also known as Jawniyya
  4.  Amra bint Yazid
  5. Sana Bin Sufyan
These marriages happened, but they separated as they chose the world over Allah and His prophet. This shows the magnitude of his duties that were not like ordinary people. He was given some unique things that were obligatory for him. When such a heavy burden was placed on the Prophet, his wives also had their rights.

Allah Most High says, “O wives of the Prophet! If you were to commit blatant misconduct, the punishment would be doubled for her. And that is easy for Allah.” [Quran, 33:30]

As stated in the verse above, their mistakes are not welcomed like those of ordinary women. Their minor errors can be excused, but major mistakes unsuitable for prophethood are not allowed.
