Podcast: Play in new window | Download (7.8MB)
In this episode Shaykh Yahya Rhodus highlights the grave consequences of vilifying, cursing another Muslim, and murdering a fellow Muslim. He narrates that Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “vilifying a Muslim is sinful, and murdering him is disbelief”. Shaykh Yahya explains that Muslims have rights upon one another. The usage of Muslim here extends to all the different factions that identify as Muslim. He also highlights that the Qur’an calls the believers to not speak ill of the false deities of the disbelievers, so it is even more emphasized to not speak ill of other Muslims. Speaking ill is also a precursor to violence, strife and murder. Shaykh Yahya also explains that Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used the word “disbelief” about someone who murders another Muslim, to express the severity of taking the life of another Muslim. Murder is not an act that a true Muslim would do. In the Qur’an, it is clear that the consequences of a murderer are also severe in the hereafter. Finally, Shaykh Yahya speaks about some of the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the end of time, and how there will be a lot of random murdering and killing taking place.
