In this Episode, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus highlights from the teaching of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) some qualities that a believer should not have, and by contrast some qualities that the believer should have. Shaykh Yahya relates that the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) said: “Two qualities are never coupled in a believer: miserliness and immorality”. He also presents other supporting narrations that show the qualities never to be found in a hypocrite: carrying oneself in a good way, and understanding of religion. Shaykh Yahya explains that possessing good traits are from the completion of faith, and not faith itself. He also explains the how thoughts are at the root of where character comes from. Finally, he explains what miserliness is, and how to treat that bad trait to remove it.

The Content of Character is a remarkable collection of sayings of the Prophet Muhammad. Chosen by the scholar, Shaykh Al-Amin Ali Mazrui and translated by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, this book was published to great critical acclaim.

Shaykh Al-Amin intended to show that progress among Muslims required not the abandonment of Islam but the recovery of the original spirit of Islamic enlightenment.

In this podcast series for SeekersHub, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus does a commentary on these concise and yet comprehensive sayings, with a special focus on character-building, morals, good manners and ethics.
