06 – Prophet Ibrahim: Dealing with the Generational Divide-Simply the Best: Life Lessons From The Lives Of The Prophets- Shaykh Sadullah Khan

In this episode, Shaykh Sadullah Khan discusses the importance of cultivating healthy and compassionate relationships between the young and the elderly. Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon him) was not given an opportunity to advise his father and community regarding their misguided ways. They interpreted his message as a mockery against their ancient beliefs. This arrogance prevented them from receiving God’s guidance. Despite Prophet Ibrahim not having a close and warm relationship with his father, we see how he cultivated an endearing relationship with his son Prophet Ismail. Not only did Prophet Ibrahim listen to the advice and opinions of his son, but he was also very expressive of his love for him. Shaykh Sadullah highlights this valuable point of Prophet Ibrahim not following in the footsteps of his father with regard to family relationships.
It is critical that all members of society, young and old, start to build relationships of meaning and value with each other. The elder generation should take it upon themselves to manifest mercy and love to the young. The Prophet (May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) listened and advised the young and old. If we wish to prevent the social consequences of a generational divide, we should follow in the footsteps of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Muhammad.
