Missing the Credit Card Payment Date
Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat
Question
I purchased something with a credit card, and missed the payment date. I had to pay more afterward. What is the ruling on this?
Answer
I pray you are well.
This transaction was haram, and you should repent and not do it again. Paying interest is sinful, just like receiving it. Allah has cursed those who engage in so it’s best not to persist in this. (Muslim)
A sincere repentance will be sufficient to wipe the sin away, insha’Allah. This includes resolving to not do the same act again. If you feel like you’ll be tempted use a debit card or another means of payment.
May Allah make it easy for us to avoid the things that displease Him.
