Am I Obliged To Fulfil a Promise I Made in the Toilet?

Question
I made a promise to Allah, and I’d like to know since I made a promise in the bathroom/toilet, would it still count as a promise?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate. May Allah alleviate our difficulties and guide us to that which is pleasing to Him. Amin.
You are obliged to fulfill your promise and will still be accountable for your speech. Speaking in the toilet is disliked. However, regardless of the disliked nature of speech in the toilet, one’s words and actions are still governed by Sacred Law, and Allah knows best. [Hammadi, Fath al-Wahhab al-Malik]

Shaykh Irshaad Sedick was raised in South Africa in a traditional Muslim family. He graduated from Dar al-Ulum al-Arabiyyah al-Islamiyyah in Strand, Western Cape, under the guidance of the late world-renowned scholar, Shaykh Taha Karaan.
