I Am Confused About Whether I Can Pay Expiations (kaffara) Through a Mosque. Can You Please Clarify This For Me?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
If someone cannot feed 10 poor people because it is difficult to do so, and they want to pay the monetary value instead, how much money should be given for each broken oath? ( will £10 or £20 suffice for one broken oath)
I want to pay through an organization, but I’m not sure if the ones I found are trustworthy and if the money will actually be used to feed 10 poor people.
Will it suffice if I give £10 or £20 to the masjid donation box or donate £10 or £20 to a Muslim charity organization that gives food to people (they don’t mention kaffara.)
Is it okay if sometimes the kaffara I pay is £20 and other times £50, does it have to be the same amount given for each oath, and does it have to be through the same organization?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
The following is a Shia Muslim organization. Look into giving your expiation (kaffara) through other organizations and not a mosque unless it is specified that they will use it to feed the poor, like an expiation fund, like the ones in the link below.
