Can I Use My Certificate Despite Lying About My Attendance?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
What is the ruling on the proxy; fake attendance? Back in my college days, in Class 12th boards, I used to skip classes that I didn’t feel were important, but I asked my friends to give attendance on my behalf. I was 15/16 years old back then. Most of the people were doing the same, so I didn’t think much at that time. I appeared in my 12th exams and cleared with good marks.
Now after almost seven years, I was going through the eligibility criteria for the exam, and I found that 75% attendance was compulsory to be eligible for the exam, which I didn’t know back then. After that, I completed my Bachelor’s degree. Now I am thinking if that 12th certificate is valid or not. Can I use that certificate in the future?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
Thank you for your question.
Your 12th certificate is valid and can be used in the future—nothing to worry about. Just sincerely seek forgiveness for the past action.
Regret is Part of Sound Repentance
‘Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Regret is part of repentance.” [Ibn Majah]
Don’t Worry, Carry on Doing Good Works, Repent When You Fall
We as humans will fall into sin, but the main thing is to continue with two things, carry on doing righteous works and repent if we fall into sin. We tend to carry on with righteous works but don’t repent when we fall into sin.
