Is It Allowed to Listen to Quran to Fall Asleep?

Question

Is it allowed to listen to Quran while lying on the bed and to use earphones (listening Ayat al Kursi) to fall asleep?

Answer

I pray you are well.

Yes, it is permissible to listen to the Qur’an whilst lying down. You should, however, avoid listening to the Qur’an in order to fall asleep whilst doing so.

Listening to the Quran Attentively

The Qur’an itself tells us “When the Qur’an is recited listen and be attentive – hoping that you’ll be shown mercy.” (Qur’an, 7:204) We are told to focus and pay attention to it, and this does not happen if one is falling asleep.

It’s better to listen to some Qur’an with concentration and then to recite anything you wish to before sleeping. Imam Qurtubi mentioned that the quickest way to bring mercy to oneself is through listening to the Qur’an. Bear that in mind. (Tafsir al Qurtubi)

May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
