What To Do if One Wakes Up Ritually Impure After Fajr Time in Ramadan?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

In Hanafi fiqh, if someone misses their alarm for ghusl before Fajr after having sexual intercourse during Ramadan but wakes up upon hearing the azan, is their fast still valid?

If not, what is the kaffara for this situation?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

It is not a condition for a valid fast that one must be in a state of purity with wudu or ghusl when Fajr time enters. The fast is valid. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

Hope this helps
