Does Touching a Prepacked Impermissible Item Have an Impact on Touching Other Items?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
I went to the store today, and the person in front of me had bought meat, ham, and pork at the checkout. I’m unsure what it was, but it looked like one of those meats. The cashier touched only the package of the meat and then touched my items. Does this mean that haram meat has transferred to my food even if the cashier only touched the package and not the actual meat? I ate the food, but should I clean my mouth?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
There is no need to worry about the transfer of impurities as the item is prepacked. You are just being overly cautious, so there is nothing to worry about. Also, there is no need to wash your mouth.
Don’t Have Baseless Misgivings
It is essential that one not have baseless misgivings (waswasa). This usually occurs from not having or seeking good and religious companionship of knowledge.
