Can Anti-bacterial Wipes Be Used to Clean Impurities?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

I have used antibacterial wipes for impure areas that can’t be washed. These wipes are mainly used for imperceptible impurities – from a wet impure hand. For example, my hand was impure from impure water but not yet washed. That hand came into contact with a wet clothes railing. I was unsure of what part of the railing my hand touched, so I wiped the different areas on the railing with an antibacterial wipe. I have now learned that using 1 wipe for multiple areas spreads germs, does this apply to impure also, as this is now concerning me? I have OCD and a reckless past with impurities, so I have been trying to use these wipes as a way of purifying things I have previously touched with an impure wet hand.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.

It would be fine to use wipes to wipe away impurities. As long as, with reasonable surety, there is no trace of impurity left, you will not have to worry. However, it all depends on the amount of impurity present. If more, then you may have to use more wipes or a cloth and squeeze three times.

Knowledge

The long-term cure for these constant doubts is to seek a deeper understanding of Islamic Knowledge. With knowledge, Shaytan cannot deceive you with his whispers and plots. I would advise that you find authentic scholars in your area and study with them a basic text in Islamic Jurisprudence.
