Is It Permissible to Pray in a Non Muslim’s House?
Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani
Question: Is it permissible to pray at my friends house who is a non muslim?
Answer: Walaikum assalam,
I hope you’re doing well, insha’Allah.
It is permissible for the Muslim to prayer anywhere on earth. While prayer is the most sacred of acts, and deserves the most sacred and serene of settings, it is from Allah’s Mercy to the community of His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that we can place anywhere pure on earth. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]
The Messenger of Allah (peace & blessings be upon him) mentioned that, “There are five things none of the Prophets before me was granted,” and he mentioned among them, “The whole earth has been made a place of prayer (masjid) and pure for me. So whoever of my community finds themselves anywhere during a prayer time should pray…” [Bukhari and others]
Etiquette of Seeking Permission
However, the Muslim is always fully respectful of the rights of others. As such, you should seek your friend’s permission to pray.
If able, seek a quiet place, without any pictures in your field of vision when standing for prayer.
And Allah is the giver of success and facilitation.
wassalam
