Can I Expose My ‘Awra to For Laser Hair Removal?

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question

I am a woman with dark and thick hair all over my body, which I have had a hard time with for years. I, therefore, have a desire to do laser hair removal on my entire body, also in the intimate areas. Is this allowed for me? I myself have tried to make lasers at home, but some areas require professional equipment. Please note that the hair is very thick, and it is too difficult to remove with a razor or by plucking, which irritates the skin. I also have a condition called PCOS, which is the reason for increased hair growth.

Answer

May Allah give you ease and wellbeing.

Exposing your ‘awra laser hair removal would not be permitted. I understand it’s likely the cause of difficulties for you, and I pray Allah rewards you abundantly.

If it’s possible to get the assistance of your husband in this process, that would be best, as he is permitted to see the areas. Otherwise, it’s probably best to use other means of hair removal, such as creams, or to speak to a medical professional to address the underlying cause. (Quduri, al-Mukhtasar)

Our tests can be difficult, but that difficulty is meant to direct us to Allah in our lives. Turn to Him. You’ll only find good coming from Him when you see the wisdom in it all.

May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
