Is it Permissible to Work as a Cricketer?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question

I am a professional cricketer for my country. They pay me a monthly salary. Our sponsors are companies that deal with halal, and we do not play in gambling tournaments. Is the money halal for me or not?

Answer

Yes, your income is halal. Your job is permissible, and it does not require you to dress or act inappropriately. Just make sure you are able to perform your prayers on time.

A halal income is a huge blessing from Allah. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “None of you ever ate food better than the eating from the work of his own hand. The Prophet of Allah, Dawud (Allah bless him and give him peace), ate from the work of his own hand.” (Bukhari)

Keep thanking Him for this blessing, and intend to spend on yourself, your family, and others to please. Allah.

May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
