Can I Work In a Store That Offers a Buy-Now-Pay-Later Option?
Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat
Question
Can I work at a store if customers can choose to pay using buy now pay later companies that may charge interest?
Answer
I pray you are well.
Yes, working in such a store is permissible. The buy-now-pay-later schemes may use the word ‘interest’ in the wordings, as do many payment-by-installments schemes, but this does not come under the definition of Riba in the Shari’a.
They are offering the customers one of two contracts. One will cost more but with delayed or spaces payment options, and that is perfectly fine in the Shari’a. [Usmani, Fiqhi Maqalat]
May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
