What Will Happen to the Earth When the Day of Judgement Begins?
Answered by Shaykh Abdullah Anik Misra
Question
What will happen to the earth on the Day of Judgement when the first Trumpet call is sounded?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate
When the Day of Judgement begins, occasioned by the first blowing of the Trumpet by the Angel Israfil, the earth will be lifted and crushed until it is completely reshaped and re-formed into the form that it will have for the Resurrection and Gathering.
Allah Most High says in the Quran:
“At last, when the Trumpet will be blown with one blast; and the earth and mountains will be lifted up and crushed with one blow, on that Day the Inevitable Event will have come to pass.” [Quran, 69:13-15]
As the commentators on the Quran say, this means “it will be stretched out like a certain animal skin is stretched out, and the earth will transform into an earth other than what it was before.” [Mahalli and Suyuti, Tafsir al-Jalalayn]
