Was I Wrong to be Neutral about Allah (Most High) Having Body Parts?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

I have heard that Imam Abu Hanifa (Allah have mercy on him) has said that if you stay neutral on whether Allah has body parts, you have committed kufr. Is it still a sin if I didn’t know it was a sin? Are my prayers valid? Do I need to make tawba?

Also, if I once told people about a significant or minor sign of the day of judgment and I didn’t know it was false, would I be talking about Allah without knowledge?
Also, can I say the Dua for Tawba prayer after the prayer has ended (while raising my hands)

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

Allah’s attributes in preeternity are neither originated nor created by another. Whoever say that they are created or originated, or wavers, or is doubtful is an unbeliever in Allah Most High. [Imam Abu Hanifa, Al-Fiqh al-Akbar]

This statement means that a person neither maintains the existence of the attributes or their non-existence, or is doubtful to the existence or their eternalness, because of stubbornness or ignorance, then it entails disbelief.

This is the understanding of the actual statement, and in your case, you did not have this understanding; it was just a doubt and thought you seem to think you had; it was not a settled understanding. So, stay assured and ignore your doubt. Your prayers are valid, and you don’t need to repent.

Also, you were not talking about Allah (Most High) without knowledge. Rest assured, ignore, please.

Yes, you can repent and seek forgiveness after the prayer.
