Is It Permissible to Watch Mind Reading Shows?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Is watching shows about mind reading permitted? Does mind reading in these shows come under the heading of ascribing attributes of Allah, i.e., knowing the unseen?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
Mind reading holds neither religious nor scientific value and should be entirely dismissed. One should refrain from investing time in watching and listening to mind-reading shows that have an element of astrological claims or believing in their assertions. It is advisable to refrain from viewing such programs and to advise others to do the same, as they may harm one’s faith (iman).
Focusing entirely on Today’s Work
Avoiding fears of the future or regrets about the past improves one’s current day and effort. Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, ‘The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, although both are good. Strive for that which will benefit you, seek the help of Allah, and do not feel helpless. If anything befalls you, do not say, “If only I had done such and such,” rather say, قَدَّرَ اللَّهُ وَمَا شَاءَ فَعَلَ “Qaddara Allahu wa ma sha’a fa’ala (Allah has decreed and whatever he wills, He does).” For (saying) ‘If’ opens (the door) to the deeds of Satan.’”
