Are the Names of Allah Most High Eternal?

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Question

Are the names of Allah most high also eternal like his attributes?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Merciful and Compassionate,

I hope you’re doing well, insha’Allah.

The Names of Allah point to Allah Himself, with a meaning Allah eternally possesses. As such, they are Eternal. [Baydawi, Sharh Asma’ Allah al-Husna; Ghazali, al-Maqsid al-Asna; Bajuri, Tuhfat al-Murid ‘ala Jawharat al-Tawhid]

Allah Most High says, “Allah’s are the Most Beautiful Names. So call upon Him by them.” [Quran, 7:180]

And Allah is the giver of success and facilitation.
