What Should I Do When My Menstruation Exceed Ten Days?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam
Question: Assalam alaykum
I have blood flow for 5/6 days then I find discolored discharge and sometimes spotting for more than a week. What should I do? Should I neglect it and pray? Can we make up missed prayers during this period?
Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,
Both discoloured discharge and spotting are legally deemed blood.
If your bleeding exceeds ten days (240 hours), then you need to return back to your previous, established menstrual habit. Blood which goes beyond the habit would be considered irregular (istihada), and accordingly, you may pray your makeup prayers (qada’) during this time.
