What Should I Do if I Missed My Ramadan Fast When I Was Younger?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat
Question
I missed fasting for the whole month of Ramadan when I was younger. What do I have to do to make it up?
Answer
I pray you are well.
You just need to make the 29 or 30 fasts of the month. There is no need for an expiation to be performed according to the Hanafi school. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]
Try your best to never miss the golden opportunity of fasting in Ramadan again. The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, told us that “Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and expecting a reward will have all his past sins forgiven.” [Bukhari]—This alone is priceless, let alone the other gifts from Allah.
May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
