What Kind of Ring Men Are Allowed to Wear?

Hanafi Fiqh

Question: Assalam alaykum

Does a silver ring for a man have to have a stone?

A silver ring should be 1 mithqal. How many grams is this?

Answer: Wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullah,

Men may wear rings which are made of silver, with or without a stone, as long as the stone [and ring, in general] is not feminine in style.

As for the mithqal, this is a classical weight and contemporary scholars have validly differed on the matter. Acceptable interpretations vary between 3-5 grams. Wearing something heavier is best avoided, yet it is not sinful to do so.
