Should I Respond With Salawat After Hearing the Prophet’s Name in a Video?

Question

Should I respond with blessings on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) after hearing his name in a video?

Answer

I pray you are well.

Yes, you should. In general, it is obligatory to send blessings on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) once if his name is mentioned in a gathering or during an activity – such as watching a video in which he is mentioned. Beyond that, it is highly recommended to send as many blessings on him as one can, and after each time his name is mentioned. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

One of the Greatest Deeds

This is one of the greatest of deeds; a combination of dua, dhikr, and direct obedience to a command of Allah. Make it a regular practice that you do not neglect. The matter is as the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Whoever forgets the blessings on me has missed the way to the Garden.“ [Ibn Maja]

May Allah makes our lives fragrant with the blessings on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace).
