Must I Complete My Tashahhud If the Imam Says the Ending Salams?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
If reading behind the Imam in the last rakat, the imam says salam, and one is still on tashahhud, can I follow the Imam with salam, or do I have to complete the durud and ending dua? Is the durud compulsory?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
Yes, the follower (muqtadi) will complete the Tashahhud even if the Imam says the ending salam. [‘Ala’ al-Din ‘Abidin, al-Hadiyya al-‘Ala’iyya]
Regarding the recitation of durud and closing supplication (dua) after Tashahhud, it should be noted that it is sunna and not compulsory. [Shurunbulali, Nur al-Idah/Maraqi al-Falah]
I hope this helps.
