Is Zakat Due on Land?

Question: Assalam aleykum

My father has 2 lands. He doesn’t pay zakat on it. Is it a mistake?

Answer: assalamu alaykum

Zakat is due on land if an individual at the time of purchase intended that he or she was buying this land as a trade item, namely to resell it.

As your father did not purchase it for this reason specifically, he does not have to pay Zakat on it. For more details, please see:
