Is Using Paint Brushes Made from Animal Hair Permissible?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat
Question
Is using paint brushes made from animal hair permissible?
Answer
I pray you are well.
Yes, using such brushes is permissible. Animal hair is pure and permissible to use – with the exception of pigs, boars, etc. Use of them should be avoided as best one can – especially if it has anything to do with food. (Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al Muhtar)
Thanking Allah for His Gifts
When using such items try to reflect on the kindness and generosity of Allah who made everything on Earth for us so we can benefit from it. Such reflection leads of gratitude. “It is He who created for you all that is on the Earth…” (Qur’an, 2:29)
May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
