Is the Blanket of a Bed in Which My Son Has Urinated Impure?

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: Assalam alaykum

My son has urinated in his pyjamas while sleeping. He had two blankets covering him of which it is hard to see the traces of urine on them. I felt the blankets but could not find it wet.

1. Are the blankets now impure?

2. Has carrying the blankets made me impure?

Answer: Assalam alaykum wa rahmat Allah,

1. The basis is that if there is no trace of impurity on the blanket, it would not be deemed filthy. [And, in any case, the only part which would be filthy, if affirmed, is the point of contact, and not the entire blanket.]

2. No, if the assumption is purity, there is no need to worry about any type of filth transfer.

Generally, if a wet, filthy object comes into contact with a dry, pure object, the latter is not deemed filthy except if the traces of filth are clearly manifest. Traces being color, taste or smell.
