Is Rent Income Generated from Unlawfully Acquired Money Halal?

Thank you for your last response. My question is related to a fatwa by Shaykh Faraz on starting a business with haram wealth. Here is the link:

So, my question is, would the money from renting a property that was bought with haram wealth, such as stolen wealth, riba, or gambling, also be halal, as it is a separate contract, even though we never want haram and make dua for halal income but certain situations sometimes can’t be avoided?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

The answer is the same as given by Shaykh Faraz.

One is not allowed to use and derive benefits from money obtained unlawfully. However, if one did so and purchased a property and earned rental income through it, it would be lawful and permissible, even though the money used to buy the property was obtained unlawfully.

However, the unlawful money you have purchased a property with must be returned to its rightful owners, or if not possible, one must give away the equivalent amount in charity without any intention or expectation of reward.

One must also sincerely repent for the sin of taking unlawful wealth, continue to ask forgiveness from Allah (Most High), and take the means to refrain from such activities in the future.
