Is My Fast Valid if I Can Taste the Medicine Used Nasally?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question

I ingested some medicine orally and nasally and could taste it despite rinsing my mouth and nose. This was before Fajr had come in and later till after it came in too. Is my fast valid?

Answer

Don’t worry. Merely tasting something in your mouth, especially medication which usually has a lasting taste, will not invalidate your fast. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

Your fast is valid. I look forward to a tremendous reward from Allah. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, ”Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and expecting a reward will have all his past sins forgiven.” [Bukhari]

May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
