Is My Appliance Purchase Valid When Bought Through a Credit Card Instalment?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Is the product halal to keep, given the interest charges, or should I sell it? Is the money from selling it halal?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
Your appliance purchase in this way was valid. You should not worry about selling it off. The cash and credit prices were the same. The interest is predetermined by default on all items in your country unless you buy an item from a non-high street shop or privately.
Purchasing items on deferred payment and a fixed number of installments at determined times is permissible. If, at the time of agreement, a price is fixed in a way that it does not change, then this is permissible.
