Question
I hope you are in good health. I have a lot of unsightly hair on my back. I know that laser hair removal is allowed. I live in Europe, and laser hair removal is only done by women here. As long as I am covered from belly button to knee, is it ok to have it done by an employee because I can’t find a male employee?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
It is permissible for men to remove hair from their chest and back, although it is against proper manners. However, it is not impermissible.
“To shave the chest and back is against proper manners and contrary to proper manners. (adab).” [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar; Al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya; Rada al-Haq, Fatawa Darul ulum Zakariyya]
One should avoid removing hair from the chest and the back If there is no need. However, suppose there is a need, for a reason, like a follicle infection, dislikeness by wife, unsightly hair, like in your case, etc. In that case, there is nothing wrong in removing it, temporarily or permanently, subject to no potential harm occurring. Laser Hair Removal by a Female Employee
Although you will have your nakedness (satr) covered, it would not be advisable to have it removed by a female employee. In the meantime, use temporary means, like cream, to remove the hair until you find a male employee.
