How Should I Deal with Splashes from the Toilet Bowl?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi
Question
I have prayed without washing the splashes of water from my body that reached me while I was relieving myself in the toilet. Was my prayer valid?
Answer
In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
I pray this finds you in the best of states. The splashing from the toilet bowl water onto your body is impure. Thus, if the surface of the impure water that has reached your body was wider than a circle with a diameter of five centimeters your prayer was invalid. You will have to make it up. [Shurunbulali, Nur al-Idah]
If it was equal to or less than five centimeters then your prayer was valid because this amount of filth is excused. [Ibid]
Allah, Most High, says: ‟Purify your garments.” [Quran, 74:4]
This verse indicates that it is a condition for the validity of the prayer to be free from filth. [Badr al-Din al-Ayni, Binaya]
And Allah knows best.
Wassalam
