Does an Extended Pause within the Prayer Due to Breathing Break the Prayer?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
I said the testimony of faith after the attahiyat and after saying the first part I breathed then said the second part, usually, when I breathe I go back is it wrong not to should I repeat my prayer?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
No. A pause during the prayer caused by breathing, even if lengthy, does not break the prayer. This action is a necessity and is in the interest of completing the prayer properly. Another example that falls under this principle is clearing the throat in order to be able to recite. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]
Hope this helps
