Does a Person Have To Pay Zakat on His TV or PlayStation?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat
Question
Does a person have to pay zakat on his tv or PlayStation?
Answer
No. Zakat is only paid on wealth whose value grows itself, as with gold and silver, or has the potential for growth through investment, such as cash. The only time you would have to pay zakat on the items you mentioned is if you purchased them with the intention of selling them as a business venture. [Mawsili, al-Ikhtiyar]
I hope that helps.
