Do I Need to Form an Intention Each Time I Want to Denote Rewards to the Deceased? – Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question
Do I need to form an intention each time I want to denote rewards to the deceased / whole Ummah, or is it okay to set it once for life that the whole ummah benefits (living and dead) for all Fard, Wajib and various sunnah acts?
Answer
I pray you are well.
Either is fine. You are, in essence, asking Allah to be generous to others on your behalf, and Allah knows everything. You can choose to donate everything at once or do it from occasion to occasion.
The act itself is great, and none deserves the gifted reward more than the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) despite him not needing it. His struggle to ensure the guidance of Allah reached and benefitted us is one that cannot be properly thanked, let alone repaid. Do gift the reward to him and the other Prophets, Companions, and the righteous too.
May Allah accept it from you.
