Can We Do Wudu in a Bathroom Which Has an Attached Toilet?

Hanafi Fiqh

Question

I’m from Bangladesh. Can we perform wudu in a bathroom that is attached to a toilet? And when we open the water tap in the bathroom and do wudu, the water falls into the bucket (which we wash our hands, mouth, nose, and head). Can we wash our feet with that water?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

The water falling in the bucket from the bathroom is now used water (musta’mal). The water is clean and pure (tahir) but not purifying. You will have to wash your feet with fresh water from the tap.

Water that comes into contact with the limbs will become used, although pure and clean, but will not be purifying. Therefore, one cannot use it for washing another limb or making wudu again. [‘Ala’ al-Din ‘Abidin, al-Hadiyya al-‘Ala’iyya]
