Can I Give Zakat to My Siblings If They Qualify?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
If my brother and sister are Zakat eligible, am I allowed to pay Zakat to them?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
I pray you are in good faith and health.
Yes, it is permitted and preferable to give zakat to one’s siblings; brothers, and sisters if they are needy. Because the shared benefit, which is found generally between one’s parents, children, and spouse, is cut off between them. [’Ala’uddin ‘Ibn ’Abidin, Al-Hadiyya al-’Ala’iyya]
