Are Remaining Stains of a Washed Impurity Excused?

Hanafi Fiqh

Question: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu,

Are stains remaining after washing an impurity also a cause of spreading impurity if they get wet?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

No, the remaining traces which are difficult to remove are excused. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]

‘Amr ibn Maymun said that I heard Sulayman ibn Yasir about sperm getting onto clothes, and he quoted ‘A’isha as saying , “I used to wash it from the clothes of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he would go out to the prayer with the traces of washing showing as wet patches on his clothes.” [Bukhari]

And the legal maxim states that hardship beings about ease. Thus remaining traces are of no legal consequence in that they will not become filthy by coming in contact with water. This is because the filth itself has been removed.

And Allah alone knows best.
