Is It Permissible to Use Steroids?
Answered by Shaykh Irshaad Sedick
Question
Is it permissible to use steroids?
Answer
In the name of Allah, The All-Merciful, The Especially Merciful. May Allah guide us to live our lives purely in His obedience and facilitate ease in our affairs, Amin.
The use of legal steroids will be permissible if used on the advice of a qualified and experienced medical practitioner and per the need for such medication. Self-medicating with potentially harmful illegal substances is not acceptable, and Allah knows best.
Allah says, “And spend in the Cause of Allah and do not throw yourselves into destruction, and do good. Truly, Allah loves the good-doers.” [Quran 2:195]
The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) prohibited us from causing harm to our bodies. It was related, on the authority of Abu Sa’d Ibn Malik Ibn Sinan Al-Khudri (Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.” [Ibn Maja; Daraqutni]
I pray that this is of benefit
