Is It Permissible to Use Hashtags for My Business?
Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad
Question
I want to start an account about knitting and Islamic reminders with no music, face reveals, or speaking. I was wondering if it’s halal to use hashtags in posts that are related to Islam and knitting. I’m not sure if it is permissible since hashtags can lead people to a woman who doesn’t cover her `awrah, for example, or a post that has music.
Answer
Thank you for your question. May Allah reward you for your scrupulousness, and may he give you success in your endeavors.
Hashtags
Yes, these are permissible to use, and you are not morally responsible for what your hashtags lead to. The risk is probably minimal, too, with the topic of knitting and Islam. Please take a course on the fiqh of finance/business before starting.
