Is it permissible to use cadaver bone grafting for the purpose of a dental implant?
Answer
Thank you for your important question.
Bone grafting with synthetic bone material, or pure animal bone is perfectly permissible.
If, however, this is not possible, and the surgical procedure is not simply aesthetic, then bone may be taken from the patient himself (autogenous grafting.)
If this, too, is not possible or is very likely to fail or cause other harm, taking bone from a dead body (cadaveric allograft) would be permissible.
As mentioned, this is all assuming the surgical procedure is not simply aesthetic. This also assumes the consent of the donor before death and that one conforms to the laws of one’s country.
