Is It Permissible to Say I’m Delivering Using a Bicycle Even Though I’m Using a Car?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

Is it haram for me to say I’m delivering using a bicycle even though I am using a car to make the deliveries to avoid paying for insurance?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

It would be impermissible for you to say you are using a car and you are actually using a bicycle. This is an outright lie. Find other ways to get cheaper insurance and pray to Allah Most High with a Prayer of Need and continuous duas and blessings in your sustenance (rizq).

Beware of Telling Lies About Small Things

Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (Allah be pleased with him)reported, My mother called me one day while the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) was seated in our house. She said, “Come here, and I will give you.” The Prophet said to her, “What do you want to give him?” She said, “I will give him a date.” The Prophet said, “If you had not given him anything, it would have been recorded against you as a lie.” [Abu Dawud]

Believers are Honest, and Sinners are Deceitful

Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him) reported the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “The believer is innocently generous, and the wicked one is deceitfully malicious.” [Tirmidhi]
