Can I Use Self-Tanners?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi
Question
Is using self-tanners haram? Is it one of the things that invalidate/break wudu?
Answer
In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
I pray this finds you in the best of states.
Tanning
Based on a previous answer at SeekersGuidance:
As long as the tanning does not entail any public exposure of your nudity (awra) or harm to the body, then it would be permissible to use this product.
One also has to take the health risks of using self-tanners into account before using them. Using such products can promote skin aging and wrinkle formation. This doesn’t make it impermissible, but one should consider such harms and their likelihood. Please consult a reliable doctor before moving forward.

No, using self-tanners won’t break your wudu because no filth has exited your body. [Shurunbulali, Nur al-Idah]
And Allah knows best.
