Why Are Muslim Countries Engaged In Dishonest Behavior?
Question: Why is it that all the Muslim majority countries are involved in so much dishonesty and so much less human rights? Are they not going against Islam and will Allah not ask them? Is a Muslim not supposed to be the best human? Why do people use religion while giving less importance to human rights? Is it what our religion teaches?
Answer:
Dear questioner,
Thank you for your question.
Our religion clearly does not teach dishonesty and corruption.
Allah says in the Quran, “God commands justice, and goodness, and generosity towards relatives. And He forbids immorality, and injustice, and oppression. He advises you, so that you may take heed.” [Qur’an, 16:90]
This ayah clearly states what Muslim values are and should be. This is a verse often read in Friday sermons by the imams on the minbar to emphasize the foundational teachings of our beautiful religion. As for when countries follow that or not, certainly, Allah will ask, but He will ask individuals. This includes you and I and every person on earth. We all have good and bad. While it may be true what you have mentioned, it is not the teachings of our religion. Rather, it is a breach of the sacred trust. We as Muslims have a responsibility to command the good and forbid the evil.
The example for us as Muslims is ultimately and mainly the Prophet Muhammad. (Allah bless him and give him peace)
His Sunna is a lamp that guides us from darkness to light. It is abandoning this light that has led many to the darkness.
The Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) warned, “Beware the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and God.” Oppression is forbidden and harmful. Therefore, there is no excuse for it whatsoever.
“Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.” [Quran 5:42] The principle of justice in Islam applies to everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, or status.
