What Is the Significance of Reciting Sura Al-Taghabun?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

I want to know the authenticity of reciting sura Taghabun several times for illness/sickness and other types of health difficulty. Is it from some hadith, or from where is it?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

Below are the virtues of Sura Taghabun. However, the number of effective recitations for a particular sura and verse are often recommended by many scholars and ‘Awliya throughout the ages based on their experiential Allah-given insight.

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) would not sleep until he recited certain suras. Among them were the ‘Musabbihat’ [Those Suras which begin with some form of Tasbih, i.e., Sura Hadid, Sura Hashr, Sura Saf, Sura Jumu’a, Sura Taghabun, and Surah ‘Ala]

‘Irbad ibn Sariya (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) would recite the ‘Musabbihat’ before he slept, and he would say, ‘These Suras contain a verse which is better than a thousand verses’ [Tirmidhi; Nasai, Amal al-Yawm Wal-Layl]

It has been reported by ‘Ubay Ibn K‘ab (Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “whoever recites Sura Taghabun, will be protected from sudden death.” [Mustaghfiri, Fada’il-Quran]
