Is There Repentance for Someone Who Sympathized With Certain Regimes?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
My question is, if a person had in his mind supported/sympathized with specific regimes and their actions that spill innocent blood, especially Muslim blood, is there any repentance for him? As Quran 4:93 highlights, the one who intentionally murders a believer is set for fire for a long time unless Allah Almighty chooses to forgive him.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.
It was sinful and wrong of you to sympathize with these regimes who spill blood. However, the punishment for sympathizing is not outright Hellfire. Now that you have realized, you will sincerely repent and ask for forgiveness from Allah Most High.
Warning Not to Help Evil Rulers
Nu‘man ibn Bashir (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Surely, there will be rulers after me who tell lies and commit oppression. Whoever affirms their lies and advises them in their wrongdoing, then he is not part of me, and I am not part of him. Whoever does not affirm their lies nor advise them in their wrongdoing, then he is part of me, and I am part of him. Verily, the Muslim whose blood is shed is an expiation for him. Verily, the glorification of Allah, the praise of Allah, the declaration there is no God but Allah, and Allah is the greatest, these righteous deeds will endure.”
[Ahmad]
Allah Created You to Forgive You
Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “The expiation of sin is regret. If you never sinned, Allah Almighty would surely come with people who would sin, and He would forgive them.” [Ahmad]
