Can We Learn and Practice Wrestling Inside a Masjid?

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question

I have a question regarding wrestling/grappling. My question is whether it is permissible to wrestle inside a masjid, not only limited as a sport but in general too.

Answer

Yes, wrestling for learning, developing skills, physical training, etc., within a masjid is permissible. It should not be done at a time or in a manner that would disrupt the worship of those praying, reciting the Quran, learning and teaching, or remembering Allah in general.

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) permitted some Abyssinians to train in the mosque, and scholars deduced the permissibility of this from such narrations. [Ibn Hajar, Fath al-Bari]

May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.
