Does the Air from a Hair Dryer Invalidate the Fast?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
If one uses a hairdryer and some of the air that gets blown out of the hair dryer gets sniffed into one’s nose, swallowed in one’s mouth, or enters into one’s ear, does this break the fast, according to the Hanafi school of thought?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
I pray you are in good faith and health.
Air that is generated from a hairdryer does not break one’s fast.
Only the entrance of something with a perceptible body into the body cavity through a recognized point of entry would invalidate the fast. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar; ‘Ala’ al-Din ‘Abidin, al-Hadiyya al-‘Ala’iyya]
