Will All the Intoxicants Known in this World be Available in Paradise?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

I’m a non-Muslim. Heaven in Islam is described as the most detailed out of all religions. I know khamr means all intoxicants and not just wine; I know wine will be in heaven. Does this mean all the drugs known to intoxicate in this world will be in the afterlife,  like marijuana, and would it be smoked? And also, will tobacco, whether to smoke or not, be in heaven, and will snuff be okay?

I read tobacco has medical benefits. Can it be permitted in this world if necessary?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

I invite you to the beauty of Islam, a combination of all the previous messages of the prophets and the final message for humanity for all places and all times.

Inner Subtleties of Paradise are Unknown to Us

The inner subtleties of Paradise are unknown to us. Paradise is a place of no emotions. One will continuously feel total pleasure and bliss eternally and wish for whatever he wants and desires the way he wants.

The life of the Hereafter is unique and different from that of this world. Life in a mother’s womb differs from that of this physical world. Each world is different, so the life of Paradise will be eternal and unique; its pleasures and life will also be the same with food, fulfilling desires of all kinds, etc. One will not think of the pleasures of this world as they were temporary; from being fresh, it went stale to rotten hard, and decomposed.

Whoever Worships Allah Sincerely Enters Paradise

Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (Allah be pleased with him) reported the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Whoever says there is no God but Allah sincerely, he will be admitted into Paradise.” [Tabarani]

No One knows the Pleasures of Paradise

Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him) reported the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, (Allah bless him and give him peace) Allah said: “I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human heart has conceived. Recite the verse if you wish: No soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort.” [Quran, 32:17; Bukhari; Muslim]

Speak Kind Words, Offer peace, Feed the Poor

Abu Shurayh (Allah be pleased with him)reported: He said, “O Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace), tell me something that will guarantee Paradise for me.” The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said, “Speak kind words, offer peace, and feed the hungry.” [Ibn Hibban]

One Hundred Levels in Paradise beneath the Throne

Mu’adh ibn Jabal (Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace)  said, “Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan, performs the prayers, and makes the Hajj pilgrimage to the House, it is a duty upon Allah to forgive him whether he emigrates in the path of Allah or remains in the land of his birth.” Mu’adh said, “Shall I not tell the people?” The Prophet said, “Leave them to work. Verily, there are one hundred levels in Paradise; the distance between them like the heavens and the earth. Al-Firdaws is the highest and most ideal level, for above that is the Throne of the Most Merciful and the rivers of Paradise flow. When you ask from Allah, ask for Al-Firdaws.” [Tirmidhi]

What is Paradise Made Out of?

Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him) reported: I said, “What is Paradise built from?” The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace)  said, “Bricks of silver and gold, its mortar is the musk of strong fragrance, its pebbles are pearls and rubies, and its soil is saffron. Whoever enters it will enjoy bliss without despair and eternity without death. Their clothes will not fade, nor will their youth expire.” [Tirmidhi]

Rivers of Water, Milk, Honey, and Wine in Paradise

Mu’awiya ibn Haydah (Allah be pleased with him)  reported: The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Verily, in Paradise, there is a sea of water, a sea of honey, a sea of milk, and a sea of wine, and after that, they branch into rivers.” [Tirmidhi]

Wonders of Paradise for the Believers

Abdullah ibn Qays (Allah be pleased with him)reported: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Verily, in Paradise is a tent made of a hollowed pearl sixty miles wide, in each corner are families who do not see each other. The believers will roam freely between them. There are two gardens of silver, their utensils and whatever is in them, and two gardens of gold, their utensils and whatever is in them. Nothing will come between its people and looking upon their Lord but a curtain of majesty over His face in the Garden of Eden.” [Bukhari; Muslim]

Reward for Giving up Wine, Silk

Anas (Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Whoever abandons wine-drinking although he could drink it, he will be given drink within the holy sanctuary. Whoever abandons wearing silk, although he could wear it, he will be clothed within the holy sanctuary.” [Musnad al-Bazar]

Smoking in Paradise

As for smoking in Paradise and its other types, like vaping and e-cigarettes. The bounties of Paradise will be as such that one will not think of them, and they will come in all shapes and form that one will forget about the temporary enjoyments and thrills one had in this earthly temporal abode.
